Youth Learn to Row

We look forward to welcoming any high school and middle school students who are interested in learning the basics of our sport, and the opportunity to join our team and be on our crew!

Youth Rowing Summer Camps

Open to all incoming 6th-12th graders interested in learning the sport of rowing. Join us for any of this summer's learn-to-row camp sessions to learn the basics of rowing. Participants will attend a two-week camp and learn the terminology and how to be safe on and near the water as they get a chance to row. All participants will have a chance to row both on our land-based rowing machines as well as in the boats, learning both techniques of sweeping (one oar) and sculling (two oars). All activities take place on Hoover Reservoir.  Attendance in Westerville schools is not a requirement to participate. No prior experience is necessary.

*Any camper who completes a learn-to-row session may continue rowing with the team for the remainder of the summer season for $100. Coaches will identify the appropriate segment to join and/or invite rowers to attend another learn-to-row camp to continue skill development.

Youth Coxswain Summer Camps

A coxswain (kaak·sn) is a critical member of a rowing team. The “cox” also known as the ninth seat in a rowing shell. The cox masters the art of steering, commands, docking, and calling out the drills as instructed by coaches. Coxswains learn to row and how to communicate effectively about rowing. Camp occurs concurrently with youth learn-to-row and focuses on helping coxswains grow their leadership skills with new rowers.  'A good coxswain can make the difference between winning and losing and is the catalyst between coach and crew'. No prior experience is necessary.

*Any camper who completes a learn-to-row session may continue rowing and coxing with the team for the remainder of the summer season for $100. Coaches will identify the appropriate segment to join and/or invite rowers to attend another learn-to-row camp to continue skill development.
