Mission Statement

At Westerville Crew we promote the sport of rowing in the community and beyond by fostering teamwork, discipline, and a lifelong love of rowing.

Team Governance

Westerville Crew's governance structure includes active engagement of both the coaches and a board. The combination of these two groups, in addition to our partner organizations, fulfills the leadership needs of the organizations rowing out of Hoover Reservoir. We continually look inwards at our organization to ensure our structure aligns with our current team goals as well as the future needs of our athletes to ensure the best possible rowing experience.

Vice President, Jennifer Fleishman

Jen is passionate about all things rowing. She began competitive rowing her freshman year at The Ohio State University. She returned to the sport in 2021 when her son, Cooper, began rowing for Westerville Crew. Jen proudly shares how transformational rowing has been for Cooper who is currently a senior on the Varsity Men’s team and has been accepted to attend and row at Rochester Institute of Technology in Fall 2024. Jen’s greatest hope is that Westerville Crew continues to grow and offer the beauty and benefits of rowing to more youth and adults. When traveling, Jen always enjoys connecting with the local clubs in order to experience new waterways and crews. Jen is a masters rower and currently rowing competitively with both Westerville Crew Masters and Endeavor Racing Alliance.

Melissa Kappes, Secretary

Melissa rowed on The Ohio State University club team as an undergraduate and has recently started rowing again with the Master’s team.  Following her two children’s interests, Melissa has been a Girl Scout Troop leader, Scouting parent volunteer and dance mom extraordinaire.  However, her kids’ love of rowing has made the biggest impact on her family with her son rowing for the Men’s team and her daughter as a coxswain for the Men’s team.  On regatta days, look for her at the docks, where she often serves as Control Commission Chair.
